Seven months ago, humanity was faced with the daunting responsibilities of staying home, social distancing, and wearing a mask to save lives from a disease we know (practically) nothing about. Over the past seven months, my daily life has changed in ways I never foresaw. Below is a list of things that have helped me keep my sanity during quarantine.
A couple months ago, I bought a record player on a whim and it is now one of my all-time favorite purchases. I play it in the morning, as I get ready for work, at night when I relax, and just any time I want to put myself in the right mindset.
My current records on repeat are:
- Rumors– Fleetwood Mac
- Back to Black– Amy Winehouse
- See you Again– Tyler, The Creator
- Please Excuse me for Being Antisocial– Roddy Ricch
- Mt. Joy– Mt. Joy
- Communication with Friends and Family
This is a given, but phone calls, letters, and video chats with friends and family are so important to not feel isolated. If the typical FaceTime gets boring (let’s face it, nothing is that new right now with any of us), there is a website extension called Teleparty. It allows you to watch Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc. in real time with anyone in the world, simply by sending a link. My boyfriend and I are huge fans of this platform, since it’s the easiest way for us to stay on track of the same show when not being able to watch it together. My close friend joined the military in May and has limited access to his phone. We’ve kept in contact via letters and it’s reminded me of the excitement of receiving a letter in the mail.
Youtube has its fair share of drama and entertainment, but there’s a whole other side that I used to skip right over. There are so many well-filmed videos on productivity, time-management, wellness, mental health, and spirituality. Watching other people shamelessly bare their souls to a camera and see how their lives have adjusted since COVID is immensely comforting.
Below are all Youtubers I’ve discovered during quarantine (and highly recommend):
